Adopt a Bike is Back!
Moving into this Spring, we are welcoming Adopt a Bike back into our main shop and volunteer space. Since we can utilize the staff, volunteers and structure of our main shop, AABer's are welcome to come to our shop during open shop hours and pick up and drop off their bicycles. Reminder - our shop is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 11-6 (11-5 on weekends).
Staff as well as in house volunteers should be able to help facilitate the process of picking up bikes from the warehouse. Our intention is that our at home mechanics focus on repairing bikes for our Teen Urgent Need program. These will typically be full size mountain bikes with a frame size of 17" or less, and they are in their own specific bay in our warehouse, which is labeled as Teen Urgent Need and AAB.
Once you have chosen a bicycle to take home, you can snag a tag from the AAB bay and then you can shop for items in our parts room. You will not be charged for components for AAB bicycles. You can then take the bicycle home to work on it in your shop, garage or living room. When shopping for parts, we ask that you focus on getting used parts from our stock room so we can recycle donations instead of using new components. When you are finished with a bicycle, you are welcome to return it to the Bicycle Project during open shop hours, and it can go on the Double Check rack in the Volunteer Space for staff to run through.
My ask for you is that you log the time that you are working on the bike at home/picking it up so we can accurately record our volunteer hours. The link to do so is below:
Please feel free to bookmark this form and input your time regularly - recording volunteer hours helps us gain grants and funding, in addition to measuring the work needed to run and maintain programs. If you read the form, there is a spot for you to record hours working on AAB, as well as how many bikes you fixed in that time. We greatly appreciate this extra effort.
Thank you so much for your participation in our volunteer programs and all you do for our community! If you have questions regarding this email please don't hesitate to ask me directly.
