Rebuilding, Riding, and Rising: Impact in 2024

2024 was an unprecedented, audacious, and hugely impactful year here at the Boise Bicycle Project. We started the year with a literal hole in our storefront after a drunk driving crash and ended it by hosting over 650 kids and families in that remodeled building at our Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway - an incredible transformation powered by a community that showed up again and again!

In between, we fixed 1,000 bicycles for free through community outreach programming, closed a mile of roadway and welcomed thousands of people at the first-ever Open Streets Boise, worked alongside 35 women who are currently incarcerated in our Shifting Gears program, hosted after-school programs for 50 teens, and served more than 2,700 people in our shop through bicycle repair, empowering educational opportunities, and access to the benefits of cycling that we know and love.

Beyond those numbers are stories of real people in our community who have joined us for the ride. People like Miranda, a Shifting Gears participant who spoke about their role in helping to fix and giveaway bicycles and teach safety courses for kids, saying "It was the first time in a long time that I felt I wasn't only viewed as a felon ... the first time in a long time that I didn't just view myself as a felon." When we say we’re making an incredible impact in the community, this is exactly what we mean - bicycles connecting people to their community and their community to them!

Every impact we make is rooted in the unwavering support of our community. It’s a powerful reminder that when we show up for one another — person to person — we can achieve extraordinary things together.

As we look to next year, we invite you to help us continue this momentum. Your support fuels life-changing programs and helps us create even more stories of community, connection, and empowerment.

Thank you for believing in our mission and for riding with us into 2025 - a year full of awesome possibilities, unity, and community!
