A Week At BBP

As we roar into the ‘20s with resolutions still fresh on our minds, opportunities to implement positive routines into our lives may seem endless.  I’ll plant the seed here that there is a place for you to be involved with the Boise Bicycle Project throughout the entire year. Here is a roadmap for what a weekly routine with BBP looks like, and I implore you to join us during any or all of the days that you are available starting next week!

Tuesday

The Tuesday Volunteer Pathways Class Series will be starting up again next month!  From 6:00pm--8:00pm, staff and experienced volunteers will lead a more structured learning curriculum for a group of volunteers hoping to gain mechanic skills at BBP.

The curriculum will be taught over 4 consecutive Tuesdays in a month, with the topics changing each month. We’ll start with the bike basics, so there is no need to have any bike knowledge before taking the Pathways class.  Learn the skills to feel empowered to work on bikes at BBP, and continue to hone your abilities at the Thursday Volunteer Nights! Must be able to commit to an entire month of Tuesdays to sign up for a volunteer spot.

Wednesday

Our Wednesday Night Members’ Happy Hour is open to members to work on their projects with the support of BBP staff mechanics. We extend our shop hours by two hours for members only; and the shop is open until 8pm for you. Can’t get off work early? Head to the shop at 6pm to get started on your project. Have a project that requires lots of time and elbow grease? Check in at the shop earlier in the day and stay through until 8pm!

Wednesday night is “Members’ Happy Hour” because it’s the one night per week at BBP that you can BYOB to enjoy (responsibly) while you work. Beer, cider, and wine are welcome, as well as snacks. Leave the hard liquor at home, please.

Thursday

Come down to the shop for our Volunteer Night from 6:00pm--8:00pm every Thursday.  We work on a variety of things that change week-to-week depending on shop needs. Volunteer jobs include tearing apart bikes for usable parts, working on kids bikes, servicing wheels, testing tubes for holes, and preparing for upcoming events.

These are fantastic nights to gain bike skills in a welcoming environment, meet new people, and become familiar with all things BBP related. Open to anyone who has gone through a volunteer orientation. Please sign up for volunteer spots here!

Friday

Close out the working week by joining us for our Friday Night Bikes social bike ride!  Every Friday, we will begin a leisurely ride from BBP to some social gathering, specifically designed to promote community and connection!  Some past Friday Night Bike destinations have included a coffee/tea picnic in the park, poetry readings, special movie premiers, art shows, a salsa festival, a tour of Bike Touring News, street fairs, and plenty of breweries.

Meet new people, enjoy being active on a Friday night, and explore all of the happenings in Boise! Follow BBP on Facebook or subscribe to our weekly Newsletter for updates on the weekly Friday Night Bikes rides.

Saturday

Boise Bicycle Project shop hours are 11am--5pm on Saturdays.  Work on your own bike, look through the parts room for a long sought treasure, or just eat popcorn and say hello to all of your friends at BBP!

Sunday

Sundays offer our second dedicated members-only shop time. The shop is closed to the general public, and members can work all day (11am - 5pm) in a quieter and more mellow shop. Want to choose the music? Ask Saxton and Camille to put on your (all ages) tunes!
