State Street Project: A Triumph for People-Friendly Streets and Community Advocacy

Post-hearing celebration with those who testified on July 24th at the Commission Meeting.

We are thrilled to share the exciting news that the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) has officially adopted Concept B(1) for the State Street project, scheduled to be built in 2026! This decision marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to make Boise a more people-friendly city.

A Community Effort: The Power of Advocacy

Leading up to the public hearing on July 24th, the Boise Bicycle Project (BBP) rallied the community to support Concept B(1). We believe in the vision of creating safe spaces for pedestrians and bicyclists, anticipating future growth along the corridor, and providing safe commuting options for the people we serve. The turnout and testimonies were beyond inspiring.

On the day of the hearing, just over 20 people from our community stepped up to the microphone. They shared personal stories, highlighted the benefits of Concept B(1), and passionately advocated for a safer, healthier, and more sustainable Boise. Their voices were heard loud and clear, and their testimonies played a pivotal role in the commission's decision.

Why Concept B(1)?

Concept B(1) was the clear choice for several reasons. It introduces shared-use paths that separate pedestrians and cyclists from vehicular traffic, significantly enhancing safety. This design anticipates the future growth of State Street, supporting a sustainable and multi-modal transportation strategy that encourages walking and biking.

For the Boise Bicycle Project, this decision means that the people we serve will have safe and accessible pathways for commuting. Our community members, many of whom rely on bicycles as their primary mode of transportation, will benefit immensely from this infrastructure.

Looking Ahead: Building a People-Friendly State Street

The adoption of Concept B(1) is not just a win for BBP but for the entire Boise community. It sets a foundation for a safer, healthier, and more connected future. The project, slated to be built in 2026, will transform State Street into a vibrant, people-friendly corridor that promotes active transportation, reduces traffic congestion, and boosts local businesses.

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who showed up, spoke up, and supported this cause. Your advocacy made a difference. This success is a testament to the power of community engagement and the impact we can achieve when we come together for a common goal!
