We might have to press the panic button

This Dream Bike story was written by 5 year old Tetiana with the assistance of their teacher. Tetiana is number 233 of the 574 kids receiving refurbished dream bikes on December 17th.

If we don’t get 200-300 bicycles donated by the end of this week, we will be hitting the panic button. I don’t know exactly what that means, because I don’t know if we’ve ever been this close to pressing it, but with only 11 days left to fix 230 more bicycles for kids like Tetiana, and only 30 bicycles remaining on our shelves, we’re getting nervous.

And so, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We’re calling “all grassroots hands on deck!” for the next 5 days in hopes of finding 300 gently used bicycles before the end of the weekend. We’ll be hitting the local press as hard as we can (if you have contacts for national press, let me know), and we need YOU beating the grassroots drum as hard and loud as you freaking can!

5 Things you can Do Today!

  1. If you have used bicycle (any shape size or condition) bring it down to BBP ASAP! If the door is locked, just knock.

  2. If you don’t access to a used bike, adopt a dream bike for one of our kids and cover the cost of repairing a bike that another community member drops off. DON’T buy a new one, we can make that money go a lot further fixing what we do have.

  3. Volunteer to pick up bikes. We have folks calling to donate bikes, but they don’t have a vehicle to bring it in. email benton@boisebicycleproject.org if you can help in this way.

  4. Post this to your social media, email lists, nextdoors, and any other online platforms you can think of.

  5. Rally your coworkers, gym, church, rotary, and basically any group that you’re a part of that could have a multiplier effect.

My very favorite thing about BBP, without a doubt, is our ability activate the community to accomplish big audacious, and seemingly impossible things. 300 bikes in 5 days is audacious. Getting them all fixed and customized in time for the Giveaway is beyond a big lift. But waking up on December 17th with 575 dream bikes ready to roll for all 575 amazing kids, including Tetiana… it’s worth the hard work ahead.

On Monday, if the bikes still haven’t come in… we’re hitting the panic button. Whatever that means. Hopefully we’ll never know!

Ride on Boise!
