VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - MEET CARRIE Applegate
Carrie has been holding down the ‘merchandise fort’ at the Neighborhood Concert series this summer. We’ve got to hand it to her, no one can merchandising an 8x8x28 inch table better than her! Thank you for being such a rockstar volunteer Carrie!
How did you first get involved with BBP?
I started volunteering five years ago
What would you say is the impact of BBP in your life?
If you need an instant Karma Boost just look at the numbers of how many kids’ and people’s lives have been improved by receiving a bike.
What was your first memory involving a bicycle?
My parent’s teaching me to ride my bike, a baby blue banana-seat with chrome handlebars that curved into the air. My family and I would go on bike rides on the greenbelt or in our neighborhood
Based on your experience, why would you encourage others to get involved with BBP?
For a lot of kids, a bike is the first real experience of freedom and independence. You decide how fast or slow you want to ride, you can finally go further than you could on foot, and your imagination can go wild. BBP gives this to so many kids by giving them their first bike, and introducing them to a whole new world.
What’s the most memorable ride you’ve ever been on? Why?
My family and I rode on the Weiser River Trail, a bike path created from the old railroad line that used to run parallel to HWY 95. The scenery is gorgeous but it is very accessible.
Do you have a favorite/fun memory in regards to the Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway or another volunteer opportunity?
It is always rewarding to see the look on the kids’ faces when they first see their bike. They have illustrated their dream bike, thought about it since they turned in their
