Idaho Gives 2020: What a Wild Ride!

443 unique donors. $60,505 raised. THANK YOU!

Idaho Gives 2020 ended yesterday; and like most things we do at BBP, it was a wild ride! We collectively covered about 50 miles of Boise streets over 14 days to deliver dream bikes to kids and teens. While we shared 14 stories in our Idaho Gives campaign, we actually gave away about 25 bikes over the two week period.

As you probably know by now, we raised funds to expand our youth programming to serve refugee teens and teens living at our neighboring Fort Hall and Duck Valley Reservations. It costs BBP considerably more to provide bikes to teens, because teen bikes are really just adult bikes in disguise. With this incredibly successful fundraiser under our belt, we can now get to work building out the program to provide bicycles and ongoing bicycle education to teens.

I had to take a pause on Thursday evening to take in the monumental amount of support that YOU provided. You came through, loud and clear, for BBP. Thank you. Thank you for believing in the power of the bicycle as a tool for opportunity and social change.

I owe gratitude and acknowledgment to those folks who helped the dream bike giveaways happen:

-Christa, our Youth Programs Coordinator, worked with volunteers to fix the bikes. She also scheduled and coordinated all of the various bike drop-offs and pick-ups.

-Ryan, A+++ volunteer, went above and beyond to support delivering the bikes by truck when we needed to. Ryan gets a million gold stars for pulling off social distanced bike support.

-Katharine Cross, the Community Schools Coordinator, believes in these children more than anything. She is the person in Boise I most admire; and she worked with Christa and me every step of the way to get the bikes delivered.

-Jimmy and Ned chipped in with giveaways whenever they could and hosted our rad social distanced mobile-fix-it.

-Nina scheduled all of the social media posts behind the scenes.

…And lastly, you. YOU made this happen for us. Thank you.

-Em
