Bikes of BBP & Their Humans: Meet Stafford

Stafford…ever logical and efficient. Stafford joined our team last summer as our very first donations leader. We threw him into the fire, he created his own processes, and he whipped our warehouse into shape. Stafford spends a lot of time working with volunteers, and he’s a great and patient teacher. Hey you!… interested in getting to know Stafford better? You should sign up for our volunteer donations processing shifts!

NAME: Stafford Smith

PRONOUNCE: He/Him

ROLE AT BBP: Donations Lead

BIKE MAKE & MODEL: Motobecane Fantom CX

BUILT: Gifted to me Winter of 17’, modified up to now

BIKE’S NAME: Curie (after the French scientist Marie Curie)

BIKE’S STORY: The frame and original components were gifted to me by Mike and Madison Vosk. They built it over the winter break. Once I received it I upgraded the shifters from 9 spd Shimanos to the 10 spd SRAM Apex, still on the bike now. I replaced the aluminium (Stafford’s Canadian, y’all!) fork with a Carbon-Composite specialized fork and recently replaced it again with a Pro Carbon-Composite fork that came from BBP as a gift from Mike and Madison once again. I then replaced the cartridge style bottom bracket with a BB30 2 piece crank to drop more weight. I also enjoy the extra rigidity of the large spindle. This season I’ve added a wheel set to my collection to have both a Cross and Road setup. Curie’s been nothing but great to me. We’ve been through hail in the LP 100 Century race, gone through the snow and mud of Cross events, and logged plenty of miles around the valley.

FAVOURITE (more Canadian spelling!) FEATURE: I’m a big fan of the clearance in the frame that allows me to do anything I want. Road or gravel, Curie’s ready for everything and anything I am.

FAVOURITE ICE CREAM: Neapolitan is the best of the less exotic ice cream. Sometimes I’ll adventure outwards. Coffee is another solid choice.

SHOP CLOSURE ACTIVITIES: Riding (alone) throughout the valley. Building a garden with my roommate. Rebuilding my old 1998 Subaru Legacy (George) so I can make more long distance trips when the world opens up again. Trying to spend what time I can with family.
