2020 is the 100 year anniversary of Women's Suffrage. The bicycle was their vehicle to change.

That’s right. Thanks to the almighty bicycle, the suffrage succeeded and here we are today; voting, marching, continuing the fight and most of all…. bicycling.

Some bike alone, some rip through dirt trails, some bike their kids to and from school in sweeeet cargo bikes. Its safe to say that the bicycle has been a mode of empowerment for women, kids, people of color, everyone who has access to one, for 100+ years and more to come.

So why am I bringing all this up? I have some opportunities to share that you can join and make a direct impact for our bicycling community!

Cause we need to keep fightin’ the good fight!

Here is how you can go beyond the bike lane the next couple weeks.

Attend TODAY’S (1/22) ACHD Public meeting!

ACHD will hosting a public meeting on the 8th St. bikeway improvements the city would like to install. Specifically, adding bike lanes from Jefferson to Washington st. If you can make it, you gotta! This is a major bike artery, connects our river to ridges (see what I did there?) and would be a fantastic improvement to bike connectivity in Boise. They are also looking at adding bike lanes on Jefferson from 8th to 13th St. This would be a great addition for bikers coming from West Downtown neighborhoods!

Share with your friends! Voice your experience! Be there at 6pm!

Apply to ACHD’s Bicycle Advisory Committee! This is a major opportunity!

As a member of the Bicycling Advisory Committee, you have a direct opportunity to advocate for safer routes for kids, families, you to bike on and nudge ACHD projects to be safe for bicyclists throughout Ada county.

Currently, women and people of color are extremely underrepresented on the Committee. If you identify as such, please consider applying!

If you need help navigating the application please email me, nina@boisebicycleproject.org and we can work on it together. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Finally, this is an ask specific to BBP.

Are you a member, volunteer, event goer or supporter of BBP? We want to hear from you! Tell us about your BBP experience, highlights and feedback of 2019 and share your ideas to make 2020 at BBP another record breaking year!

Alright, that’s it. Its a big couple weeks for bicycling in Boise, and I hope to see you out there getting' involved… beyond the bike lane!
