Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway: An update to the Adopt-a-Dream Bike program

Hello BBP riders, members, supporters!

Nina here. As you may have seen in our previous blog posts, our membership newsletter, Facebook…. Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway is right around the corner!

As we begin to get Dream Bike drawings submitted, ramp up our bike buildin’ efforts, and secure lights, locks and helmets for all, I wanted to update you on the Adopt-a-Dream Bike program.

For those who aren’t familiar, kids who are referred to us submit a drawing of their Dream Bike. This includes their favorite colors, why they are excited to get a new bike, what decoration they want and whatever else the kiddo feels compelled to share. My job is to post all of the 500 drawings we receive to our website for you to adopt by donating funds! For every Dream Bike you adopt, you will receive a picture of the kid with their sweet new bike for the holiday season.

Pro Tip: These make adorable holiday gifts for family and friends!

In the past it has been $50 to adopt a Dream Bike, ensuring each kid will get their bike, a helmet, lights and a lock to secure their bike and safely ride through the Treasure Valley. This price has never changed.

To build up 500 bicycles, it takes time. It takes a village. And time. And supplies. Have I mentioned a lot of time?

This year to help us cover the true costs of giving away 500 personalized bikes with the necessary accessories, we are updating our Adopt-a-Dream Bike pricing. The bigger the bikes, the more work that needs to be done. They often come with gears and more complicated brake systems and because of this, we are tweaking the pricing structure. See below.

20” bikes and smaller: $50

BMX bikes: $75

24”-26” bikes: $100

Ready to make some dreams come true?! The Adopt-a-Bike page will be live on November 26th, right on time with the gift giving season. Mark your calendars!

Thank you for understanding, and if you have any questions please feel free to email me: nina@boisebicycleproject.org
