Bikes of BBP (& their humans): Meet N

I think we can all agree that despite social distancing, we are finding meaningful ways to connect. Kindness and connection. That’s what I’m experiencing right now. I really feel that, through this challenge, our commitment to humanity is so strong, and that we are all looking inward and outward to explore what matters most.

During this time of pause, we want to share the stories of our bikes and their humans.

Your name: N

Your pronouns: They/Them

Your bike make & model: Soma Wolverine

When did you build your bike?: I did this build last May. It took about a month to get all the components together. All the components are recycled parts from BBP’s parts room.

Your bike name: I don’t have a name for my bike, but the inspiration for the bike comes from Monty, the flamingo mascot on the front of my basket.

What’s the story of your bike?: Monty is a play on the name Monet, one of my favorite painters. I am influenced by Monet’s great use of color, and I wanted to build a very colorful bike. I built the bike up around the bottle cages (those sweet, multi-colored butterfly cages!)

What’s your favorite feature on your bike?: People always check out my spacer stack. I love how colorful it is.

What’s your favorite ice cream?: Cookies and Cream

What’s does Malcolm (fellow staff member) appreciate most about N? “There’s a lot I appreciate about N. I appreciate how genuine N is, and caring about people. Whenever N asks, ‘how are you,’ they actually want to know how you are doing.”

What does Emily (author of this post) appreciate most about N?: N is a very creative soul who writes beautifully and speaks sincerely. N will go above and beyond every single time for the greater good of the team and those we serve.

What’s N currently doing during our shop closure?: Literally right now (as I type this), N is busy at work refurbishing bikes that we will eventually have for sale when the shop re-opens. N is also going to be working on creating new bike building curriculum for the women in our Shifting Gears program.
