Can we let go now?!...and other bad jokes to commemorate the 2020 Membership Drive

Despite that beautiful headshot directly over there to the right, it’s me—Emily—sweeping into Nina’s Membership Drive space.

Why?

I had to drop in to celebrate Nina’s phenomenal work on the 2020 Membership Drive. Before I go on some more about Nina, let me bottom-line it: We hit our goal! And ahead of schedule to boot! As of about an hour ago, we have 153 new or renewing memberships for a total of $15,769. And I’ve actually seen a few more membership purchases come in while I’ve been working on this newsletter. Now, onward to some information about how you can still get in on the 2020 Membership Drive….

But first! My bad joke!

As you know, the theme for this year’s Membership Drive has been “Hold on Tight” (and Kelly Knopp designed some totally rad artwork for our custom Voile Straps). Dan commented on one of BBP’s instagram posts about the Voile Strap incentive: “I’d say ‘that’s tight!’ but then I’d be dating myself.” And ever sense then, I’ve been itching to make my own bad jokes. Well, more realistically, I had one harebrained idea that the wrap of the 2020 Membership Drive should be called “You Can Let Go Now!”

(And my 9 year old niece and 4 year old nephew might also encourage us to sing the song we all love to hate, “Let it Go,” right now.)

Phew. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

So. Yes. We did it! At about 2pm on Thursday, November 19, we hit our goal. Nearly one week ahead of schedule!

And now, an important message from Nina:

Even though I jumped in to take over this post, I know Nina would want me to share this:

Can you get us to $17,000?

We only need TWENTY members to buy or renew to make this happen!

Remember that you’ll receive a super rad custom Voile Strap and the warm and fuzzy and wonderful feeling that comes along with being a member of the BBP Community.

One final incentive is that you can still join during the 2020 Membership Drive for $70, which is $30 off the normal rate. Go ahead and click that button above right now!

Lastly, and honestly the real reason I am writing today: I wanted to take a minute to celebrate Nina and all the hard work she put into this membership drive and, moreover, all of the amazing work she does at BBP.

Let’s face it. The BBP Membership program is different within a pandemic. We aren’t seeing you inside the shop, and it’s hard. Nina has turned a tough situation into some pretty awesome stuff. She’s been advocating on your behalf for safe and equitable bicycle transportation options. She’s been making DIY member appointments available to you as we can offer them, safely.

And what you could never know unless she explicitly told you is that she’s the reason that digital record keeping, digital relationship management, and member/donor/community outreach happens at BBP. She has one of those magic brains that understands complex digital systems, and we at BBP—and you in our community—are all the better for it.

Now I do know that truly all the thanks belongs to YOU, our new and renewing members. YOU showed up in big ways when we asked you to, even though your member experience is drastically different and will continue to be for some while. But I knew you’d understand how important it is that Nina be seen and recognized for what she does for BBP, and for you. Thank you for allowing me to share that with you.

Thank YOU, our membership community. Please, never let go. Keep on holding on tight.
