Ready to Give Even More Bikes Away?

New Capacity Brings New Opportunity:

More Volunteer Shifts, Same Great Work!

Boise Bicycle Project is launching new volunteer opportunities to increase capacity for its youth programs!

Volunteers have spent the last several months working to build out new workbenches and warehouse space behind the BBP shop. Previous storage space in the shop has been replaced with bike stands and tool sets while half of the building next door to our shop has been taken over to serve as bike storage.

This has allowed BBP to move all of the work volunteers previously conducted at the former Pizza Hut location back into the shop while still giving them their own space to focus on children's bikes for the youth programs. In total, we have installed five workbenches for volunteers to work on kids bikes and designated storage space in the warehouse to store a greater number of restored bikes and better serve the needs of our community.

The new volunteer shifts will focus on filling those workbenches on more days of the week so we can recycle more bikes!

Social workers as well as hospitals and nonprofit partners often reach out to BBP to arrange bike donations for children they work with. This increased capacity to rebuild and store children’s bikes will allow BBP more flexibility in working with these partners to decrease the wait time between a request being made and a bike being available.

BBP is adding weekly volunteer mechanic shifts on Thursdays and Saturdays to take advantage of this new capacity. Volunteers familiar with basic bike mechanics who are interested in helping to restore donated kids bikes can sign up to use the volunteer space between 10:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays or between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays by following this link.

Hopefully, this is the first of many new volunteer opportunities to launch in the coming months as we strive to not only increase program capacity but offer more diverse volunteer opportunities in an effort to better accommodate the needs of a broader group of volunteers. If you have suggestions for volunteer shifts or types you would like to see, email our volunteer manager, Benton Smith, at Benton@BoiseBicycleProject.org
