Come On In. We're Open!

We’ve been working hard to get the shop ready for Stage 3 (the stage that gets you back into the shop), and we’re excited to announce June 3rd is the big day!

While it still won’t be business as before, it’s a big step during a time when our services are desperately needed. To ensure we keep you, our staff, and our programs safe, stable, and moving forward, there will be some mandatory precautions. We want to say THANK YOU in advance for following these. So let’s get these rules/steps out of the way and embedded into your noggins first.

Reopening Rules

  1. Don’t come to BBP if you’re sick!

  2. You’ll need to have a mask on to come into the shop. Bring your own, we have about 300 extra free ones if you forget, or you can buy a BBP bandana at the door.

  3. We’ll have a hand washing and glove station out front, wash your hands and put on a pair of gloves before coming in.

  4. Maintain 6 feet of distance from BBPs staff and other shop users at all times. We’ve made some shop adjustments to make this easier.

  5. Make an appointment or line up in our “one in, one out” line.

New Services (Stage 3)

Great! Now let’s talk about all of the things you’ll be able to do during Stage 3

Shopping (Wed-Saturday 11-5pm): Starting on June 3rd, BBP will resume normal shopping hours. We’ll only be able to accommodate 3 folks in the shop at a time (a group of 2 counts as 1 folk, we won’t be able to accommodate groups of 3). If you book an appointment here, we can get you right into the shop. If you don’t, it will be “one in, one out;” and the line might get long.

Bike Shopping (Saturdays 11-5pm): We’ll continue outdoor bike shopping on Saturdays. The demand is huge and this seems to be the best way to accommodate the most people. If you need a bike, but can’t make it down on Saturdays, please book an appointment here.

Donations (Wed-Saturday 11-5pm): We’re now taking bicycle donations during regular shop hours. Please give us a call 208-429-6520 if you have over 4 bikes to donate to. We may have some extra instructions for you.

Members DIY Repair (Wednesdays 6-8pm, Sundays 12-5pm): We’re excited to reopen DIY repair services to BBP Members. However, maintaining 6 feet of distance will make it difficult for our mechanics to provide a lot of assistance, so you will need to have the ability to work pretty independently. If you’re still new to bicycle repair, it may be best to wait a little longer before booking a DIY repair time. If this goes well we hope to expand these hours soon and explore ways to provide assistance for less experience mechanics soon. Members, stay tuned for an email with instructions on how to sign up for DIY shop time.

Walk in/Non Member DIY Repair: We will do our best to triage any urgent and immediate repair needs, but walk-in DIY repair services are on hold. We are recommending Bikes and Beans and Georges for bicycle repair services for those with the ability to pay. See special flat repair services below.

Free/Reduced Flat Repair: All members will receive an email with 2 free flat repair coupons. After that, we will be providing $5 flat fixes (per tire) for members and $10 flat fixes for nonmembers. We should be able to turn most of these around in about 15-30 minutes.

Volunteering: We now have at least 2 volunteer shifts per day that are available to all volunteers over 16 years old. Under 16 years old can volunteer with an adult. We will still be taking extra measures to keep volunteers from vulnerable age groups and/or with vulnerable conditions in low-risk/low interaction situations. We’re so excited to have everyone back in the shop. Sign up for shifts here.

What’s Next (Stage 4)

In stage four we expect expanded DIY times for members, and more opportunities for members new to bicycle repair. We expect to bring back some group volunteer opportunities during Thursday Volunteer Nights. We expect some controlled size social rides (group bicycle rides centered around enjoying each others company).

THANK YOU!

We know this has been and will continue to be challenging for a lot of folks. We’re are doing our best to continue our charitable services and expand public operations with safety at the forefront. Your support and understanding along the way has be incredible and has put BBP in great spot to not only recover, but recover in a way that will help make Boise a stronger and more resilient community going forward. Again, Thank you!
