Reopening BBP

On Thursday April 30th Governor Little announced the lifting of the “Stay-at-home” order and the implementation of Idaho Rebounds, a 4-staged approach to reopening the State of Idaho. BBP has created a staged reopening plan tied to the guidelines outlined in each of the Governor’s stages. It should be noted that some of our steps will be more conservative than what’s allowed/recommended, because we will continue to put our most vulnerable community members first. That said, we also pledge to be more creative in our community-wide services to ensure you, our supporters, are a central part of the plan.

A few things to point out from the Governor’s Plan.

  • As an “essential business,” (a social service organization and bike repair shop), many aspects of Stage 1 have been in place for several weeks during the Stay-at-home order.

  • All stages must incorporate at least 6ft of social distancing.

  • All stages require wearing a face covering in public places.

  • All stages require staying home if you’re sick.

***Following these requirements is an act of kindness and compassion to BBP’s staff, the people we serve, and the community as a whole. We ask that you keep us safe by following these guidelines during all BBP activities. And please show this same compassion at all businesses and public places.***

BBP Stages

Below are 4 stages reflecting what’s possible at BBP as Idaho moves through its stages of reopening. Items in red are key activities of interest and are detailed below the graphic. All activities listed are subject to change. Our goal is to create a map and rough timeline for BBP’s Staff, Board, Volunteers, Members and Supporters to help understand future services. Everyone’s input along the way will be key.

Key activities in Stage 1.

Bike Sales: Starting this Saturday 12-5pm we will offer in person bike sales (fully refurbished and as-is) in front of the shop. Face coverings will be required for test rides. We will be selling bandanas for those who forget.

Controlled Mobile Repair: BBP will be providing free kid/teen bike repair at partnering nonprofits. This will not be DIY Repair and will be heavily controlled. Our goal is to fix bikes for kids who can’t make it down to the shop.

Low Risk Volunteers Needed: BBP is looking for volunteers under 50 years old with no preexisting conditions to help with mobile repair, donation processing, and other low-risk shop services. Please contact Emily@boisebicycleproject.org if you’re interested.

Events: Online events only (Jimmy’s weekly Bike-a-bout Boise virtual rides, bike movies…)

Needs:

  • Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes

  • Rags/cut up t-shirts: Please wash these first and drop off in a bag.

  • People with trucks and/or trailers: to help with bike delivery and scrap.

My Closing Message

Everyone is really anxious right now. Some folks are eager to get things rolling again, and some folks would prefer to keep the Stay-at-home order in place for a longer period of time. It is important to understand that we have to remain cautious and we have to follow the rules in order to not set ourselves back. We have to show kindness to each other by practicing extreme caution where ever we go.

We want you to use the services we have available and we are practicing extreme caution to offer you those services. PLEASE do the same for us. We can’t wait to see your mask/bandana covered faces soon!
