Bikes of BBP & Their Humans: Meet Camille

One my second or 3rd day working at BBP, Camille taught me how to do a full service tune-up on my bike. Her teaching style and patience blew me away. She’s such a hard worker at BBP, she’s a full time student, and she’s an incredible dancer. I’m excited for her to share her bike with you.

Name: Camille Jackson

Pronouns: She/Her
Role at BBP: Mechanic/ Educator
Bike make & model: Barracuda/ A2E
When did you build your bike?: I built my Bike at BBP about 2 years ago
Your bike name: I still haven’t found a name that fits, suggestions are welcome!

What’s the story of your bike?: I built this bike at BBP after my commuter was stolen. I had been looking for a replacement for a while when two Barracudas came into the shop; one was my size so I test rode it. I instantly fell in love with it! This bike was intended to be my bike-packing bike, but I love it so much I use it almost every day. I've replaced most of the parts on it and even got creative with adding a basket to my back rack, adding a cable stop to the top tube and getting my canti brakes to work with my suspension fork. I’m continuously changing or adding new things to it! I’m very intentional with the colors I add and love color coordinating the red and gold. If I’m not out on my Barracuda this summer it’s probably because I’m out riding on my Unicycle!

What’s your favorite feature on your bike?: My favorite feature about my bike is probably the SID rock shock suspension fork I rebuilt and put on it. I love that it has a lockout; I can take it off trail or lock it and zip around town!

What’s your favorite ice cream?: Homemade Peppermint ice cream!

What does Patricia (shop facilitator) appreciate about Camille?: Camille is my SuperHero!! She is the coolest, down to earth person I have ever met!! What I love and admire the most about her is that at her age, she knows how to balance fun and hard work like a champ!! Did you know she is the third certified female bicycle mechanic in Idaho?”

What does Malcolm (shop mechanic) appreciate about Camille?: “Beyond being one of our best mechanics, I really appreciate Camille because she is an incredible educator who is really good at sharing her knowledge with others. Additionally, no matter how busy we are or how difficult things can get at the shop, it always brightens my day to turn around and see her working while practicing her pliés with a huge smile on her face.”

What are you currently doing during our shop closure?: I'm helping hand off bikes to volunteers and taking in the ones they're dropping off. I also double check bicycles that have been serviced and service wheels.
