What are BBP Points?!

Hey there! Are you ages 11 through 18? Do you like bikes and free popcorn? Do you want to earn cool shop merch and bike parts? Check out BBP Points!

What are BBP Points?!

BBP Points is a way for youth ages 11 through 18 to earn BBP merchandise, membership, and more by volunteering with us! Once you get your point card, every hour you volunteer is worth 5 points, or one stamp!

How do I earn BBP Points? If you are new to volunteering with us, sign up for Volunteer Orientation and ask Christa for a point card! You can start volunteering at our Thursday Volunteer nights from 6pm to 8pm. We’ll pair you with an experienced volunteer, and you might work on tear apart or kids bikes or whatever our shop needs are for the day! Thursday evenings no good for you? Come volunteer on Saturday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm and help in the warehouse with donations processing! Already been volunteering? Ask Christa for a point card! Every time you finish volunteering, log your hours & tell Christa you need stamps on your card.

Is volunteering the only way to earn BBP Points? Volunteering is not the only way to earn points! You can also get your card stamped when you attend BBP events, like Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway or Goathead Fest. You can get points for riding your bike down to BBP with your helmet on, and for joining a social ride with us (also with your helmet on!). Keep a lookout for details about upcoming monthly youth social rides on the 4th Saturday of the month, beginning in April!

Can I earn a bike with my BBP Points? Yes, if you are in need of a bike, you can earn a Youth Project Bike from our selection of youth commuter bikes. Last year, we rolled out BBP Points as a way for teens in need of bikes for reasons of school, work, or health to log volunteer hours and earn a bicycle. Space is limited in our summer Youth Earn a Bike classes, so volunteering in exchange for a bicycle is a year-round opportunity for 12 through 18 year olds in need of bikes. 6 hours of volunteering will earn you a project bike and two hours of mechanic assistance fixing it up.

What other things can I earn with my BBP Points?

New bike parts! If you want to spruce up your bike with colorful new grips or pedals or deck it out with a snazy bell, every hour you volunteer can go towards a dollar’s worth of new shop merchandise, up to the full price! Same goes for useful commuter items like lights or locks.

BBP Youth Apron! Are you a dedicated Thursday night volunteer? Earn your own red Youth Apron that you can personalize!

BBP Official Membership! That’s right! Youth can earn their very own BBP Official Membership by volunteering in the shop!

How are BBP Points different from Youth Work Trade? During the hours our shop is open to the public, BBP offers Youth Work-Trade for walk-ins who need their bikes fixed. Many kids in the community will walk their bikes to our shop in need of flat fixes, brake system overhauls, or even just a light or lock. 30 min. of work-trade work in the shop is worth $12 in shop time (with a mechanic on the floor) and used parts. Work-trade is a walk-in service, and you must redeem your work-trade time immediately to get your bike safely rolling again. BBP Points is a way to track hours that you’ve volunteered over a time frame of weeks or months so you can redeem them all at once.

See you at the shop!- Christa
