This Saturday. 700 bikes. 700 kids in need. Help us make it happen!

The moment we’ve all been waiting for, Boise Bicycle Project’s BIGGEST HOLIDAY KIDS BIKE GIVEAWAY YET! We are so so so excited for this momentous event, and cannot wait to share it with you! Don’t forget to check out Emily’s post to see if you can help us with any item donations, like tasty treats or pop up tents.

I’m here to remind you that this is the last week to Adopt a Dream Bike! When you do so, it helps us provide supplies to dreamify every last bicycle to the child’s drawing. If every drawing on the website now gets donated, we will hit our goal of $30,000 to make that happen!

Don’t get me wrong, we are excited but its been a lot of work to make this day happen. We’ve never given away 700 bikes in one day and there’s been a range of emotions of can we do it, can we do it well for each kid, how much sleep does one truly need etc. This weekend as I preserved energy before this big week, I found myself sharing Jimmy’s Ted Talk with a loved one. I suggest you to watch the whole thing, but below is what struck me the most this weekend, and reminded me once again, why we do this.

Whether its a blank application, the Learning Lab bundle, or ones that you choose, your donation will directly impact a child’s life, by giving them what we all cherish the most from a bicycle. Freedom. Opportunity. Access. Fun!

But, it does so much more for our community. It not only empowers our children to connect to our city, but impacts all Boise bikers by the phenomenon Jimmy talks about in that section of the video: The more we all choose to bike, the more we make our roads safer for all bikers, young and old. Safety in numbers.

This is why I think giving bicycles away to 700 kids is so important, because it gives them freedom and the opportunity to act within their community, and make change, and ultimately… feel so connected to their community that they live in.
