BIKE SHOP MANAGER

BOISE BICYCLE PROJECT (BBP):
BBP is a local nonprofit whose mission is to promote the personal, social, and environmental benefits of cycling. It functions as a bicycle recycling center as well as an educational workspace in a diverse and non-threatening atmosphere. Through education and access to inexpensive bicycles, BBP is building a stronger cycling community.

BBP’s community bicycle shop has put over 2000 bicycles back on the street since 2007. It operates as a used bicycle and parts shop as well as workspace that teaches people how to fix their bicycles rather than fixing the bicycles for them. It is a hands-on learning center that teaches volunteers, members, and all walks of life from the community about the sustainability of cycling.    


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Bike Shop Manager assumes primary responsibility for managing all work in the Shop, which includes scheduling work, mentoring and managing shop staff, maintaining quality and timely services, providing outstanding customer service and sales, being the primary spokesperson for customers, overseeing shop business performance, and being part of a leadership team to help guide to overall operations of the organization.

PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE:
* Increasing functionality of all shop operations and programs.
	-Daily and long term volunteer projects.
	-Daily bicycle and parts sales.
	-Membership service and satisfaction.
	-Shop organization and visual appeal.
	-Earn-a-Bike Program effectiveness.
* Deliver approachable and helpful customer service to a diverse customer base.
* Support daily Bike Shop operations.
* Represent BBP as an example and resource to the community.
* Be responsible for day-to-day financial management of the bike shop.
Work in partnership with Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other staff, to               participate in strategic planning process, lead efforts to pilot new operations, and to create annual operational plans.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong commitment to sustainable communities, bicycle transportation, and the desire to work with the public
Excellent customer service and organizational skills: systems 	oriented with high         attention to detail;
Excellent mechanical skills required as well as the ability to teach those skills     (minimum 2 years hands-on, professional experience working on a wide variety of bicycles)
Previous experience in retail management, sales, and non-	profits preferred; bike shop experience essential;
* Ability to work with youth and adults of diverse cultural backgrounds
* Self-directed, energetic, flexible, patient and personable;
* Must be able to work independently and as part of a team 
Ability to work competently with computers and word 	processing, spreadsheet, and database software, Basic PC skills, working knowledge of Microsoft 	Office 
Strong interpersonal skills & a friendly outgoing attitude even in difficult situations.
* Ability to multi-task in a fast paced, ever-changing environment;

PAY RATE:
This is a full-time, salaried position, compensation commensurate with qualifications and
experience.

BBP Shop Manager
Job Description and Duties


Managing all work and sales in the shop.
	
	*Develop creative methods to increase sales, memberships, and shop usage.
	*Maintain a clean, functional, and working shop/storefront.
	*Enhance and establish a functional inventory/merchandising program.  
	 
Develop functional and educational volunteer programs. 
	
	*Assess and assign daily volunteer opportunities.
	*Create a volunteer task folder.
	*Manage the amount volunteers during Open shop time. 

Facilitate programs during Open Shop time.
	
	*Manage work trade, and greasy chain status (charged hourly) shop usage.
	*Develop and enforce Earn-a-Bike rules and procedures.

Manage BBP employees.
	
	*Assign daily and long term tasks for all shop personnel.
 	*Train and enforce BBP’s shop procedures.
	*Be responsible for scheduling, hiring, and dismissal of shop personnel.

Become a spokesperson to all BBP customers.
	
	*Deliver quality and approachable customer service to a diverse customer base. 
	*Establish a shop environment- welcome and functional to all customers, regardless 
        of income.
	*Maintain a positive presence that represents BBP’s commitment to sustainability and     
        community.
